How it works

Tier MRR = price × subscribers · Total MRR = Σ tier MRR · ARR = MRR × 12 · Blended ARPU = MRR ÷ total subscribers

Recurring revenue is simply each plan price multiplied by its active subscriber count, summed across tiers, then annualized by twelve. The blended ARPU divides total MRR by every paying subscriber, so a handful of high-priced Enterprise seats can lift it far above the Basic price. Watching the revenue mix per tier tells you where growth actually comes from — a plan with many users but a low share of MRR is a support cost, not a profit center.

Worked example

800 Basic at $19, 300 Pro at $49 and 40 Enterprise at $199 give 15,200 + 14,700 + 7,960 = $37,860 MRR. Annualized that is $454,320 ARR, and dividing by 1,140 subscribers yields a blended ARPU of about $33.21 per month.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between MRR and ARR?

MRR is monthly recurring revenue — what your subscriptions bill in a single month. ARR is that figure annualized (MRR × 12), the number most SaaS companies report to investors. They describe the same revenue at two time scales.

Why is blended ARPU higher than my cheapest plan?

Blended ARPU averages revenue across every subscriber, so higher-priced Pro and Enterprise seats pull it above the Basic price. If most revenue sits in top tiers, ARPU can be several times the entry price.

Should I count annual plans in MRR?

Yes — divide an annual contract by twelve to get its monthly contribution before adding it here. Otherwise a year of upfront cash would distort a single month of MRR.
