Safe Weight Cut Timeline Calculator
Plan how many weeks a fat cut to make weight should take at a safe rate, so you arrive lean without wrecking performance.
How it works
Weekly loss = weight · rate% · Weeks = (current − target) ÷ weekly loss
A safe fat cut runs at roughly 0.5–1% of bodyweight per week; faster than that and you start shedding muscle, glycogen and strength along with fat. This tool converts a percentage rate into an absolute weekly loss and tells you how many weeks the cut will take — giving you a realistic start date rather than a crash diet in the final week. Building in the full timeline is what lets you make weight while still hitting hard.
Worked example
To go from 84 kg to 77 kg is 7 kg. At 0.75% of 84 kg per week (0.63 kg/week), the cut takes 7 ÷ 0.63 ≈ 11.1 weeks — so you would start about 11 weeks out.
Frequently asked questions
What is a safe rate of weight loss for athletes?
Around 0.5–1% of bodyweight per week. Slower preserves muscle and performance; faster increases the risk of strength loss, fatigue and disordered eating, and is flagged by this calculator.
Does this include water-cutting before weigh-in?
No. This plans the fat-loss phase only. Any acute water manipulation in the final days is separate — and riskier — and should be handled with a rehydration plan and supervision.
