Speedcubing Average Calculator (Ao5, Ao12, Mo3, DNF Rules & TPS)

Paste your solve times to get official-style averages: Ao5 and Ao12 (drop the best and worst), Mo3, best single, standard deviation and consistency, with WCA DNF and +2 handling, the time you need on the last solve to hit a target average, and turns per second from your move count.

Solve times (seconds), comma or space separated — use DNF and +2 as in "14.32+"
Target Ao5 for the "last solve needed" (0 = skip)
Average move count per solve (0 = skip TPS)

How it works

Ao5 = mean of the 3 middle times after dropping the best and worst · Ao12 = mean of 10 after dropping best and worst · Mo3 = plain mean · 1 DNF = worst solve; 2 DNFs = DNF average · last solve for target T: x = 3T − (middle two of the other four), bounded by their best and worst · TPS = moves ÷ time

Speedcubers judge themselves by trimmed averages because single solves swing wildly with the scramble and a lucky skip or a pop: the average of five drops the best and the worst and means the middle three, the average of twelve drops one at each end, and a did-not-finish simply becomes the worst solve to be dropped — until a second one sinks the average. Those rules make "what do I need on the last solve" a small algebra problem, since the new time either lands among the counting solves or gets discarded at an end, and turns per second divides the move count by the time to show whether speed or efficiency is the next thing to train.

Worked example

The twelve times 12.85, 14.10, 11.97, DNF, 13.42, 12.20, 15.03, 12.66, 13.88, 11.54, 12.91, 14.55 give an Ao12 of 13.36 (the DNF and the 11.54 are dropped), an Ao5 over the last five of 13.15 and a Mo3 of 13.00; the best single is 11.54, the best rolling Ao5 12.91, and the session mean 13.19 with a 1.06 s standard deviation. To bring the next Ao5 down to 13.00 with 13.88, 11.54, 12.91 and 14.55 as the other four, the next solve must be 12.21 or better; a 12.50 Ao5 is impossible from here — even a 0.00 would leave 12.78.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my timer app's Ao12 differ slightly?

Some apps show the current rolling Ao12 (last 12 solves), others the best Ao12 of the session; some count a +2 differently in sorting or round before averaging. WCA rounds averages to hundredths after computing.

What counts as a DNF or a +2?

DNF: the cube is more than one move from solved when the timer stops, or a penalty like starting before the inspection call. +2: the cube is off by one move (one face misaligned beyond 45°), or inspection exceeds 15 s (over 17 s is a DNF).
