Speedrun Time Save Calculator
Compare two speedrun times to see the seconds saved, the percentage improvement and your new pace relative to a target.
How it works
Time saved = old time − new time · Improvement % = time saved ÷ old time × 100
Speedrunners measure progress in raw seconds shaved and in percentage improvement, because a fixed time save means far more on a short run than a long one. This tool converts both times to total seconds, subtracts them, and expresses the gap as a share of the old time. A positive result is a personal best; a negative one shows exactly how much a choke cost you against your reference run.
Worked example
A current best of 42:18 (2,538 s) versus a new run of 41:05 (2,465 s): the save is 73 seconds, or 1:13, which is 73 ÷ 2,538 = 2.88% faster — a solid new personal best.
Frequently asked questions
Why show a percentage as well as seconds?
Because context matters: shaving 10 seconds off a 90-minute run is trivial, but 10 seconds off a 2-minute run is huge. The percentage normalizes the save against the length of the run.
Does this use real time or in-game time?
It works with whatever times you enter — just be consistent. Many games are timed by in-game time (IGT), which excludes loads, while others use real time (RTA); comparing across the two is meaningless.
What is a good improvement per run?
Early in learning a run, whole-minute jumps are common; as you approach world-record pace, improvements shrink to fractions of a second and depend on frame-perfect tricks and better routing.
