Tip Calculator
Work out the tip and total bill — and split it per person — in one tap.
How it works
Tip = bill × tip% · Total = bill + tip · Per person = total ÷ people
The tip is a straight percentage of the pre-tip bill. Splitting divides the tipped total evenly.
Worked example
A $68.50 bill with an 18% tip adds $12.33, for a total of $80.83 — $40.42 each between two people.
Frequently asked questions
How much should I tip in the US?
Common practice: 15–20% at sit-down restaurants (18% is a typical default), 10–15% for delivery, $1–2 per drink at bars.
Tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount?
Convention is pre-tax, but many people tip on the total for simplicity — on an 8% tax the difference is small.
Do other countries tip like this?
No — in much of Europe service is included and 5–10% rounding is generous; in Japan tipping is not customary at all.
