Token Unlock Schedule Calculator
Model a vesting schedule with a cliff and linear release — see how many tokens are unlocked, still locked and what the unlocked portion is worth.
How it works
Unlocked = 0 before the cliff · after cliff, unlocked = total × min(1, (elapsed − cliff) ÷ vesting)
Team and investor tokens usually vest with a cliff (a period where nothing unlocks) followed by a linear release over some months. This tool computes how far through that schedule you are, how many tokens have unlocked, and their value at a chosen price. Tracking unlock schedules matters because large cliffs and steep vesting curves put predictable sell pressure into the market — the dates when big allocations unlock are watched closely by traders.
Worked example
A 1,000,000-token allocation has a 6-month cliff then 24 months of linear vesting. At 12 months elapsed, (12 − 6) ÷ 24 = 25% has unlocked: 250,000 tokens. At $0.50 that unlocked portion is worth $125,000, with 750,000 tokens still locked.
Frequently asked questions
What is a vesting cliff?
A cliff is an initial period during which no tokens unlock at all. When the cliff ends, either a lump unlocks or linear vesting begins. Cliffs align teams and investors with the project by delaying any access to their allocation.
Why do unlock dates move markets?
A large unlock suddenly increases the tokens that can be sold. If early investors are in profit, many sell into the unlock, adding supply and often pressuring the price around those dates.
Does this model non-linear vesting?
No — it assumes a clean linear release after the cliff. Some projects use stepped monthly unlocks or back-loaded curves; for those, treat this as an approximation of the average pace.
