Tuition Inflation Calculator
Project future tuition fees from today’s cost and an annual increase rate — cost in the enrolment year, the total for the whole degree and the monthly saving needed.
How it works
Future fee = today’s fee × (1 + inflation)^years; monthly saving = total × r ÷ ((1+r)ⁿ − 1)
Education costs have risen faster than general inflation almost everywhere — 6–10% a year in Indian private colleges, 4–6% in US universities. Compounding over a decade roughly doubles the fee, so a plan built on today’s price falls short by half. The saving figure assumes monthly contributions growing at your expected return until enrolment.
Worked example
Fees of 25,000 today at 8% for 10 years → 53,973 in the first year and about 243,000 over a four-year course; saving roughly 1,190 a month at 10% would cover it.
Frequently asked questions
What rate should I use?
Look at the college’s fee history: engineering and medical fees in India have often risen 8–12% a year; regulated state universities less.
Does this include living costs?
No — add hostel, food, books and travel separately; they can equal the tuition.
