Walking Meeting Calorie Calculator
Estimate the calories you burn by taking a meeting on foot, per session and per week, based on your weight, pace and duration.
How it works
Calories = MET × weight(kg) × hours · Distance = pace(mph) × hours · Weekly = per-meeting × meetings/week
Walking meetings convert otherwise-sedentary talk time into light activity, and the energy cost follows the MET model: metabolic equivalent times body weight in kilograms times duration in hours. Faster paces carry a higher MET, so a brisk walking meeting burns meaningfully more than an amble. The weekly total is where it counts — a few short walking meetings a week quietly add up to real distance and calories without carving out separate exercise time.
Worked example
A 160 lb (72.6 kg) person walking a 30-minute meeting at 3 mph (MET 3.3) burns 3.3 × 72.6 × 0.5 ≈ 120 kcal and covers 1.5 miles. Three such meetings a week come to about 360 kcal and 4.5 miles.
Frequently asked questions
Do walking meetings work for every kind of meeting?
They suit one-on-ones, brainstorms and check-ins where no screen or shared document is needed. For meetings that require slides, note-taking or many participants, they are harder to run on foot.
Is the calorie burn worth it?
Per meeting it is modest, but the point is accumulation and reducing sitting time. Several a week meaningfully raise your daily movement, and the fresh air and change of scene often improve the conversation too.
How is the step count estimated?
It assumes roughly 2,000 steps per mile, a common average for adult walking. Your true stride length shifts this a little, but it is a fair ballpark for planning.
