What Percent Is X of Y Calculator
Answer “X is what percent of Y?” — turn a part and a whole into the percentage they represent.
How it works
Percent = part ÷ whole × 100
This is the most basic percentage question: how big is one number relative to another, expressed out of 100. Divide the part by the whole and multiply by 100. The result can exceed 100% whenever the part is larger than the whole — for example 250 is 125% of 200.
Worked example
25 out of 200 is 25 ÷ 200 = 0.125, and 0.125 × 100 = 12.5%. So 25 is 12.5% of 200.

Frequently asked questions
What if X is bigger than Y?
Then the percentage is above 100%. For instance 300 is 150% of 200, meaning the part is one-and-a-half times the whole. That is perfectly valid.
How is this different from percentage change?
This tells you what share one number is of another at a single point in time. Percentage change compares two values before and after to measure growth or decline.
