Average Order Value (AOV) Calculator
Divide total revenue by order count to get average order value — and project revenue from a target AOV.
How it works
AOV = total revenue ÷ number of orders · Projected revenue = target AOV × orders
Average order value is the mean amount a customer spends per order — total revenue divided by the number of orders. It is one of the fastest levers on profit, because raising AOV through bundles, upsells or free-shipping thresholds adds revenue without paying again for the traffic that produced the order. Holding order count fixed, the calculator shows exactly how much a higher AOV target would add.
Worked example
A store earns $25,000 from 400 orders, so AOV is 25,000 ÷ 400 = $62.50. Lifting AOV to $75 at the same 400 orders would generate 75 × 400 = $30,000 — an extra $5,000.
Frequently asked questions
How can I increase average order value?
Offer bundles, cross-sells and upsells, set a free-shipping threshold just above your current AOV, and add volume discounts. Each nudges customers to add more per order without new acquisition cost.
Is AOV the same as revenue per customer?
No. AOV is per order, while revenue per customer sums every order a customer places. A customer who orders three times contributes three orders to AOV but one to revenue-per-customer.
Why does AOV matter for ad spend?
A higher AOV raises the revenue each converting visitor produces, which increases the cost per click you can profitably afford and improves the return on every campaign.
