Candy Buffet Calculator
Fill a candy bar buffet without running short or overspending — total candy by weight, per jar, and how many bags to buy.
How it works
Total = guests × ounces-each ÷ 16 · Per jar = total ÷ jars · Bags = ⌈total ÷ 5 lb⌉ · Cost = total × price/lb
Plan a candy buffet by total weight, not by piece. A take-home favor buffet runs about 4 ounces per guest; a grazing table where people snack all night closer to 8. Spread that weight evenly across your jars so each looks full, and buying in 5-pound bulk bags is usually the cheapest way to hit the total.
Worked example
For 60 guests at a 4-ounce take-home favor level: 60 × 4 = 240 oz = 15 lb of candy. Across 8 jars that is about 1.9 lb each, or three 5-pound bags, near $90 at $6/lb.
Frequently asked questions
How much candy per person for a candy buffet?
About 4 ounces per guest if they take home a small favor bag, or up to 8 ounces for a grazing buffet they nibble all evening. Two ounces is enough for a light accent table.
How many varieties of candy should I have?
Six to ten varieties give color and choice without emptying too fast. Mix by color to match a theme and by type — chocolate, chewy, hard and sour — so there is something for everyone.
How big should the jars be?
Match jar size to how much of each candy you want on show — a jar looks best about three-quarters full. Fewer, larger jars read as abundant; too many small ones empty quickly.
