How it works

S'mores = ⌈people × share making them × s'mores each × (1 + extra%)⌉ · Marshmallows = s'mores × marshmallows each · Graham sheets = s'mores · Chocolate = ½ bar, 1 peanut butter cup or ~22 g of chips per s'more · Packages = ⌈amount ÷ pack size⌉ · Roasting sticks ≈ 1 per 2 guests · Firewood ≈ 1 bundle per hour

A s'more is one marshmallow, one full graham-cracker sheet snapped into two squares, and half of a standard 1.55-ounce chocolate bar — the same proportions Hershey’s uses in its own recipe. Because marshmallows get dropped, burnt or eaten straight off the stick, the calculator adds a cushion (15% by default). For a party or wedding s'mores bar, set the share of guests who will actually make one, since not everyone does. You can switch the chocolate to peanut butter cups or chocolate chips, use two marshmallows for a double-decker s'more, and change the package sizes to match what your store sells. The totals become a shopping list in bags, boxes and packs, with what will be left over, plus roasting sticks, napkins or wipes and a firewood estimate for the campfire. Add prices under More options to see the total, the cost per s'more and per person.

Worked example

For 12 people at 2 s'mores each with 15% extra: 12 × 2 × 1.15 = 27.6, so 28 s'mores. That is 28 marshmallows (1 bag of 40, 12 left over), 28 graham sheets (2 boxes of 27, 26 sheets spare) and 14 chocolate bars, or three 6-packs. You also want about 6 roasting sticks, 24 napkins and 2 bundles of firewood for a two-hour fire. At $3 a bag, $4.50 a box and $7 a six-pack, the total is $33, or about $1.18 per s'more.

Frequently asked questions

How many s'mores does one chocolate bar make?

A standard 1.55-ounce bar splits neatly into two s'mores of 6 rectangles each, so plan on half a bar per s'more. Buy full-size bars rather than fun-size so the chocolate covers the graham square.

How many marshmallows per person?

One marshmallow per s'more, and most people eat two, so budget two or three each plus extras for the ones that catch fire. A 10-ounce bag holds roughly 40 regular marshmallows and a 12-ounce bag of jumbo roasting marshmallows about 24.

How many graham crackers do I need?

One full sheet per s'more, snapped into the two squares for the top and bottom. A standard box has three sleeves of about nine sheets, so roughly 27 s'mores per box.

How much should I plan for a wedding or party s'mores bar?

Not every guest makes one, so plan for about 50–75% of the guest list at one or two s'mores each, plus 15–20% extra. Set the share of guests under More options. Leftover marshmallows, grahams and chocolate keep for months, so running short is the bigger risk.

What can I use instead of a chocolate bar?

Peanut butter cups (one per s'more), chocolate chips (about 2 tablespoons pressed into the hot marshmallow) or squares of dark or caramel-filled chocolate all work. Pick the chocolate type to update the shopping list.
