Charcuterie Board Calculator
Build the right-sized charcuterie board — cured meat, cheese and crackers for a starter or a full grazing meal.
How it works
Meat oz = guests × (2 starter / 4 meal) · cheese oz = guests × (2 / 3) · crackers = guests × (5 / 8) · varieties = guests ÷ 8 (2–6)
As an appetizer, plan about 2 ounces of cured meat and 2 ounces of cheese per guest; as the main grazing spread, roughly double the meat and add a bit more cheese. Offer two to three kinds of each for contrast — something mild and something bold — with about a third more crackers than you think you need. A variety of textures and a few extras like olives, nuts, fruit and jam make the board feel abundant.
Worked example
For 10 guests as an appetizer: meat = 10 × 2 = 20 oz (1.25 lb), cheese = 10 × 2 = 20 oz (1.25 lb), plus about 50 crackers, across ceil(10 ÷ 8) = 2 kinds of each.
Frequently asked questions
How much charcuterie per person?
For a starter, about 2 ounces of cured meat and 2 ounces of cheese per guest. If the board is the meal, plan closer to 4 ounces of meat and 3 of cheese each, plus more crackers, fruit and extras.
How many kinds of meat and cheese?
Two to three of each is plenty for most gatherings — pair a mild option with a bolder one and vary the texture. Larger crowds justify more varieties, but past five or six the board just gets crowded.
What else goes on the board?
Crackers or sliced baguette, plus accompaniments like olives, nuts, grapes, dried fruit, honey and a fruit jam. These fillers stretch the board, add color and let the pricier meat and cheese go further.
