Count Weekdays Between Two Dates Calculator
Count how many times a specific weekday — every Monday, Friday, or any day — falls between two dates, inclusive of both ends.
How it works
first occurrence = start + ((target weekday − start weekday + 7) mod 7) · count = ⌊(end − first) ÷ 7⌋ + 1 when the first occurrence is on or before the end, else 0 · both end dates are included
To count a single weekday across a span, find the first time it occurs on or after the start date, then count in 7-day steps up to the end date. The range is inclusive of both the start and end dates, so a weekday landing exactly on either boundary is counted. This is the reliable way to answer questions like "how many paydays fall this quarter" or "how many Saturdays are in the school term" without listing every date. If the dates are entered out of order they are swapped automatically.
Worked example
From January 1 to December 31, 2026, counting Mondays: January 1, 2026 is a Thursday, so the first Monday is January 5. From January 5 to December 31 is 360 days; 360 ÷ 7 = 51 whole weeks, plus 1, giving 52 Mondays in 2026.
Frequently asked questions
Are the start and end dates included?
Yes. The count is inclusive of both boundary dates, so if the start or end date itself falls on the chosen weekday it is counted.
What if I enter the dates in the wrong order?
The tool swaps them, so entering a later date as the start still gives the correct count over the same span.
How many of a given weekday are in a year?
Most weekdays occur 52 times a year, but one or two occur 53 times depending on which day January 1 falls and whether it is a leap year. Counting the actual range, as this does, always gives the exact figure.
