Holiday Baking Shopping List Calculator
Turn how many dozen cookies you want to bake into a shopping list of flour, sugar, butter, eggs and chocolate chips.
How it works
Batches = dozens ÷ 4 · per batch: 2.25 c flour, 1.5 c sugar, 2 sticks butter, 2 eggs, 2 c chips
A classic drop-cookie recipe yields about four dozen cookies from 2¼ cups flour, 1½ cups combined sugar, one cup (two sticks) of butter, two eggs and two cups of chocolate chips. Scaling the shopping list is just multiplying those amounts by the number of batches — and because eggs cannot be split, this calculator rounds them up so you never come up short mid-bake.
Worked example
For 8 dozen cookies you need 8 ÷ 4 = 2 batches. That is 2 × 2.25 = 4.5 cups flour, 3 cups sugar, 4 sticks of butter, 4 eggs and 4 cups of chocolate chips.
Frequently asked questions
How many cookies does one batch make?
This list assumes a standard drop-cookie recipe that yields about four dozen (48) medium cookies. Larger scooped cookies will yield fewer, and small tea-size cookies more, so adjust the dozen count to match your scoop.
Can I use this for different cookie types?
The staple quantities — flour, sugar, butter and eggs — carry across most drop and cut-out cookies, so it is a solid baseline. Swap the chocolate chips line for whatever mix-in your recipe uses (nuts, oats, dried fruit) at a similar volume.
Why does it round the eggs up?
You cannot buy or crack a fraction of an egg reliably, so the list rounds up to whole eggs to guarantee you have enough. Any extra egg is easily used elsewhere in holiday cooking.
