JEE Main Percentile to Rank Calculator (CRL, Category Rank & Advanced Cutoff)
Convert your JEE Main NTA percentile — or your marks — into an estimated All India Rank (CRL) using the official 2026 count of 15,38,468 candidates, estimate your OBC-NCL, EWS, SC or ST category rank and female-pool rank, check the 2026 JEE Advanced qualifying percentile for your category (with 2025 and 2024 for comparison), and see which JoSAA institutes that rank usually reaches.
How it works
CRL ≈ (100 − percentile) ÷ 100 × candidates who appeared · category rank ≈ CRL × estimated share of that category among the candidates above you (2026: about 33% OBC-NCL, 12% EWS, 7% SC, 2.7% ST near the Advanced cutoffs, rising towards the overall mix of 38%, 12%, 10% and 3.6%) · female-pool rank ≈ 25% of the category rank · JEE Advanced 2026 qualifying percentile: General 93.4123549, EWS 82.4164528, OBC-NCL 80.9232583, SC 63.9172792, ST 52.0174712, PwD 0.0023186 · marks ↔ percentile from an indicative normal-shift curve
The NTA reports JEE Main results as a percentile: the share of candidates in your shift who scored at or below you. Because it is normalised across shifts, the rank follows directly — the fraction of candidates above you times the number who appeared. For 2026 the NTA reported 15,38,468 unique candidates who appeared across the January and April sessions (16,04,854 registered), so each percentile point near the top is worth about 15,400 ranks. Category ranks come from the same merit list counted only among candidates of that category. Reserved categories make up a smaller share of the top of the list than of the whole field, so the calculator scales the share using the 2026 qualifier counts for JEE Advanced. Eligibility for JEE Advanced is a percentile cutoff per category that admits the top 2.5 lakh. Admission to NITs, IIITs and GFTIs runs through JoSAA on the JEE Main rank, where last year’s closing ranks are the best guide. If you only know your marks, switch to Marks: the calculator turns them into a percentile with an indicative curve for a normal-difficulty shift, which can be several percentile points off for an unusually easy or hard shift.
Worked example
A 96.5 percentile among the 15,38,468 candidates of 2026 is (100 − 96.5) ÷ 100 × 15,38,468 ≈ CRL 53,846, likely between about 48,500 and 59,200. For a General candidate that clears the 2026 JEE Advanced cutoff of 93.4123549 by 3.09 points and corresponds to roughly 138 marks in a normal shift. An OBC-NCL candidate with the same percentile has an estimated category rank near 17,800 (53,846 × 0.33). In JoSAA that CRL usually reaches newer NITs and GFTIs, with better odds through the home-state quota.

Frequently asked questions
How many candidates appeared in JEE Main 2026?
NTA reported 15,38,468 unique candidates who appeared across both sessions (16,04,854 registered). Session 1 in January had 13,04,653 present and session 2 in April 10,34,330; 8,00,516 candidates sat both. The calculator uses the appeared figure by default because percentiles are computed among the candidates who took the exam.
Why does my actual rank differ from this estimate?
The exact rank depends on the candidate count NTA uses, tie-breaking (maths percentile, then physics, then chemistry, then fewer wrong answers) and rounding at seven decimals. Estimates are usually within about ±10%; the official rank comes with the final result after the April session.
What percentile do I need for JEE Advanced 2026?
The 2026 qualifying percentiles were 93.4123549 for General, 82.4164528 for EWS, 80.9232583 for OBC-NCL, 63.9172792 for SC, 52.0174712 for ST and 0.0023186 for PwD. In total 2,50,182 candidates qualified. Use More options to compare with the 2025 and 2024 cutoffs.
Is category rank what JoSAA uses?
For reserved seats, yes. An OBC-NCL candidate competes for open seats on the CRL and for OBC-NCL seats on the OBC-NCL rank, and is allotted whichever is better. Female candidates also compete in the female-only supernumerary pool.
Can I convert marks to a rank?
Yes — switch to Marks. The calculator first turns your marks into a percentile with an indicative curve for a normal-difficulty shift, then into a rank. Because shifts differ in difficulty, the same marks can be worth several percentile points more or less, so use your NTA percentile once it is published.
