Jewish Holidays Calculator (Passover, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Hanukkah Dates)
Find the dates of Passover, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Hanukkah, Purim and other Jewish holidays in any year, with sundown start, nightfall end and length in Israel or outside Israel.
How it works
Hebrew year = Gregorian year + 3760 (spring holidays) or + 3761 (autumn holidays, after Rosh Hashanah) · Rosh Hashanah = molad of Tishrei with the four postponement rules (dechiyot) · Passover = 15 Nisan, Shavuot = 6 Sivan, Yom Kippur = 10 Tishrei, Sukkot = 15 Tishrei, Hanukkah = 25 Kislev, Purim = 14 Adar (Adar II in leap years) · every holiday begins at sundown the evening before
Jewish holidays are fixed dates in the Hebrew calendar, a lunisolar calendar that adds a 13th month seven times every 19 years so that Passover stays in spring. Because the Hebrew year is 11 days shorter than the solar year in common years, the Gregorian dates move from year to year. The calculator uses the fixed arithmetic rules of the Hebrew calendar (Reingold & Dershowitz) and shows how many days each holiday lasts: outside Israel, Passover is 8 days and Shavuot 2, while in Israel they are 7 and 1, and Simchat Torah coincides with Shemini Atzeret. Tisha B'Av moves to Sunday when 9 Av falls on Shabbat.
Worked example
Passover 2027 outside Israel: 15 Nisan 5787 is Thursday, April 22, 2027. The holiday begins at sundown on Wednesday, April 21 (the first Seder) and, lasting 8 days, ends at nightfall on Thursday, April 29, 2027; in Israel (7 days) it ends at nightfall on Wednesday, April 28. The same table shows Rosh Hashanah 5788 on Saturday, October 2, 2027 (beginning at sundown on Friday, October 1) and Hanukkah on Saturday, December 25, 2027.

Frequently asked questions
When is Passover 2027?
Passover 2027 (15 Nisan 5787) is Thursday, April 22, 2027. It begins at sundown on Wednesday, April 21 with the first Seder and ends at nightfall on Thursday, April 29 outside Israel (Wednesday, April 28 in Israel).
Why do Jewish holidays start the evening before?
In the Hebrew calendar each day begins at sunset, following Genesis ("there was evening and there was morning"). A holiday dated, for example, Thursday begins at sundown on Wednesday and ends at nightfall on Thursday.
Why are some holidays longer outside Israel?
In ancient times the start of each month was announced from Jerusalem, and distant communities kept an extra day to be sure. The custom remains: outside Israel Passover lasts 8 days, Shavuot 2 days, and Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah are separate days.
When is Rosh Hashanah?
Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, is 1–2 Tishrei and always falls between September 5 and October 5. The calendar rules never let it start on a Sunday, Wednesday or Friday.
When does Hanukkah start?
Hanukkah begins at sundown before 25 Kislev and lasts eight nights. It falls between late November and late December.
