Mother's Day Date Calculator (When Is Mother's Day by Country?)
Find the date of Mother's Day in any year for the United States, Mexico, Spain, Argentina, the UK and 20+ other countries — fixed dates like May 10 or rules like the second Sunday of May.
How it works
n-th Sunday of a month = first day of the month + ((7 − weekday of the 1st) mod 7) + 7 × (n − 1) · last Sunday = last day − its weekday · fixed-date countries use the same day every year · UK Mothering Sunday = Easter − 21 days · France: last Sunday of May, moved to the first Sunday of June when it coincides with Pentecost
Mother's Day is not on the same date everywhere. The United States, Canada, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela, Cuba and many other countries celebrate it on the second Sunday of May; Mexico, Guatemala and El Salvador always use May 10, whatever the weekday; Spain and Portugal choose the first Sunday of May; Argentina the third Sunday of October; and the United Kingdom and Ireland keep Mothering Sunday, the fourth Sunday of Lent, three weeks before Easter. The calculator applies each country's rule to any year from 1900 to 2100.
Worked example
In the United States Mother's Day is the second Sunday of May. May 1, 2027 is a Saturday, so the first Sunday is May 2 and the second is Sunday, May 9, 2027. The same year Mexico celebrates on Monday, May 10, Spain on Sunday, May 2, the UK on Sunday, March 7 (three weeks before Easter on March 28) and Argentina on Sunday, October 17, 2027.
