Percentage of a Total Calculator
Find what share one part is of a total — turn a part and a whole into a clean percentage, plus the leftover share.
How it works
Share % = part ÷ total × 100 · Remaining % = 100 − share
A "percentage of a total" answers what fraction of the whole one part represents, scaled to 100. You divide the part by the total and multiply by 100, so 50 out of 200 is a quarter, or 25%. The remaining share is simply what is left of the 100%, which is handy for splitting budgets, survey responses or vote counts into a slice and its complement.
Worked example
If 25 of 200 tickets are sold, the share is 25 ÷ 200 × 100 = 12.5%. That leaves 87.5% unsold — 175 tickets — because the two shares must add to 100%.

Frequently asked questions
How is this different from percentage change?
This tells you what portion one number is of another at a single moment (part ÷ total). Percentage change compares an old value to a new one to measure growth or decline over time.
Can the share be over 100%?
Yes — if the part is larger than the total, the share exceeds 100%. For example, 250 out of 200 is 125%, meaning the part is one and a quarter times the whole.
What if the total is zero?
A share of a zero total is undefined, because you cannot divide by zero. Enter a non-zero total to get a meaningful percentage.
