Retirement Countdown Calculator
Count down to your retirement day — years, months and days to go from your birth date and target retirement age, plus the exact date.
How it works
retirement date = birth date + target age (in years) · countdown = retirement date − today, shown as calendar years, months and days · workdays ≈ days × 5 ÷ 7
The calculator adds your target retirement age to your birth date to find your retirement day, then counts the gap from today using your device’s clock. It breaks that gap into calendar years, months and days, and also gives the total in days and weeks plus a rough five-day workweek estimate. Because it uses the live date, the countdown shrinks by a day at each midnight.
Worked example
Someone born June 15, 1985 aiming to retire at 65 has a retirement date of June 15, 2050. Checked in September 2026, that is roughly 23 years and 9 months away — around 8,600 days, or about 6,100 working days.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a financial plan?
No — it only counts time, not money. It won’t tell you whether you can afford to retire; pair it with a proper retirement savings calculator for that side.
What if I’ve passed my target age?
It recognises that and switches to showing how long ago that date was, along with a congratulations, instead of a negative countdown.
How is the workday estimate found?
It scales the calendar days by five-sevenths to approximate a Monday-to-Friday schedule. It’s a rough figure that ignores holidays and leave.
