Birthday Countdown Calculator
Count down to your next birthday — days, weeks, hours and sleeps to go, weekends and workdays in between, the age you’ll turn and the weekday it falls on, your half-birthday and next milestone birthday, plus a countdown list for the whole family.
How it works
days = next occurrence of your month and day − today (or the count-from date), in whole calendar days · age turning = that birthday’s year − birth year · weeks = days ÷ 7 · hours = days × 24 · half-birthday = birthday + 6 months · milestone = next age that is a multiple of 10
The countdown takes today’s date from your device, or another date you choose under More options, and finds the next time your birth month and day come round. If this year’s birthday has passed, it rolls to next year. It reports the whole days left and the same span as weeks and days, months and days, hours and “sleeps”, the number children usually ask for. It also counts the weekends and Monday-to-Friday workdays in between, useful for planning time off or a party. It shows the weekday your birthday lands on, the age you will turn, how far through your birthday year you are, your next half-birthday and your next round-number birthday. Enter an age such as 18 or 50 to count down to that birthday instead. Add family and friends, one per line, and the calculator lists everyone’s next birthday soonest first. February 29 birthdays move to February 28, or March 1 if you prefer, in common years.
Worked example
Born July 10, 1995 and counting from October 19, 2026: this year’s birthday has passed, so the countdown runs to Saturday, July 10, 2027 — 264 days, or 37 weeks and 5 days (8 months and 21 days, 6,336 hours). There are 37 weekends and 189 workdays in between, and you will turn 32. Your half-birthday is January 10, 2027 (83 days), and your next milestone is turning 40 on Tuesday, July 10, 2035.
Frequently asked questions
What about a February 29 birthday?
In common years the countdown targets February 28 by default; you can switch to March 1 under More options. In leap years it uses the real February 29.
Does it count today itself?
No — on the day before your birthday it reads 1, and on the day itself it wishes you a happy birthday. The weekends and workdays counts cover only the days in between.
How do “sleeps” work?
One sleep is one night, so the number of sleeps equals the number of days left: if your birthday is tomorrow, there is one sleep to go.
Can I count down to several birthdays at once?
Yes. Under More options, add one person per line with a name and a date, such as “Mom 1968-03-14” or “Sam 12-02”. The list shows each next birthday, the age they turn if you gave a year, and the days to go, soonest first.
Why might another site show a different number?
Time zones: the count uses your device’s local date, so around midnight two people in different zones can briefly differ by a day.
