SAT to ACT Score Converter
Convert an SAT total to an equivalent ACT composite, or an ACT composite back to an SAT total, using the official concordance.
How it works
lookup on the College Board / ACT concordance table (SAT total ↔ ACT composite)
There is no arithmetic formula linking the SAT and ACT — the tests measure overlapping but different content on different scales. Instead, the College Board and ACT jointly publish a concordance built from students who took both, matching an SAT total to the ACT composite that ranks at the same percentile. Each match is really a narrow range, so the converted score is an equivalent, not a guarantee of what you would actually earn on the other test.
Worked example
Enter an SAT total of 1300. On the concordance the 1300–1320 band maps to an ACT composite of 28, so the tool returns 28. Reversing it, an ACT 28 maps back to a representative SAT total of about 1310.

Frequently asked questions
Why isn't the conversion exactly reversible?
Each concordance entry covers a range of scores, so rounding into and out of those ranges can shift the number by a point. SAT 1300 → ACT 28, and ACT 28 → about SAT 1310, are both correct within the concordance's built-in bands.
Which score should I submit to colleges?
Submit whichever test places you higher relative to a school's admitted range. Convert both to the same scale first, then compare each against that college's middle-50% band.
Is this the current concordance?
It uses the 2018 concordance jointly released by the College Board and ACT for the current 1600-scale SAT, which remains the standard reference for comparing the two tests.
