School Days Remaining Calculator
Count the school days left until the last day of term — weekends, listed breaks and holidays removed — with school weeks and hours left, days completed, progress through the year, the next break, the halfway point and a month-by-month table.
How it works
School days = days in your school week between the dates − listed break days that fall on school days − other days off · school weeks = school days ÷ days per week · completed = school days from the first day up to today · progress = completed ÷ (completed + remaining)
Most school systems run 180–200 instructional days a year. Counting from today to the last day, the calculator drops the days your school does not meet (Saturdays and Sundays by default, or Fridays and Saturdays for a Sunday–Thursday week), then removes every break and holiday you list — single dates or date ranges — and any other days off you only know as a number. It also counts the school days already completed since the first day, so you can see progress both by calendar days and by actual school days, the date of the halfway point, when the next break starts and how many hours of class are left. The month-by-month table and chart show where the remaining days fall, which helps with revision plans, attendance targets and end-of-year countdowns.
Worked example
From Saturday, September 26, 2026 to Friday, May 28, 2027 there are 244 calendar days: 175 weekdays and 69 weekend days. Taking off 18 weekdays of breaks and holidays leaves 157 school days, or 31.4 school weeks — about 1,020 hours at 6.5 hours a day. If the breaks are entered as a list instead (for example Thanksgiving 2026-11-25 to 2026-11-27, Winter 2026-12-21 to 2027-01-01, 2027-01-18, 2027-02-15 and Spring 2027-03-22 to 2027-03-26), set the other-days-off box to 0 and the calculator subtracts exactly the 20 weekdays inside those dates, leaving 155 school days, and shows that the next break starts after 42 more school days.
Frequently asked questions
How do I enter breaks and holidays?
Type them in the breaks box separated by commas: a single date like 2027-01-18 or a range like 2026-12-21 to 2027-01-01, optionally with a name in front ("Winter 2026-12-21 to 2027-01-01"). Only days that fall on your school week are subtracted. Use the other-days-off box for anything you only know as a number, and set it to 0 if the list is complete.
Does today count?
Not by default — the count starts tomorrow and includes the last day. Turn on "Count today as a school day" under More options if you are counting before school starts today.
My school runs Sunday to Thursday or six days a week. Can I use this?
Yes. Pick the school week that matches yours (Mon–Fri, Mon–Sat, Sun–Thu or a four-day Mon–Thu week). Weekend days, school weeks and progress are all counted with that pattern.
Why do the two progress percentages differ?
One is by calendar days between the first and last day; the other is by school days actually completed versus the whole year. Long breaks late in the year make the school-day figure run ahead of the calendar one.
How many school days are in a school year?
It depends on the country and state: many US states require about 180 days, England about 190, and Latin American calendars usually 180–200. Enter your official total under More options to see how many of those days are done.
