Self-Care Time Budget Calculator
See how many free hours you actually have after work, sleep and chores — and whether your self-care goal fits your week.
How it works
Free hours = 168 − sleep×7 − work − chores · Share = self-care goal ÷ free hours × 100
People often say they have "no time" for self-care without ever counting the hours. This budget starts from the 168 hours in a week, subtracts sleep, work and unavoidable chores, and shows what genuinely remains. Seeing that even a modest self-care goal takes only a slice of your real free time reframes it from a luxury into a small, affordable line item — or, if the goal exceeds your free hours, makes the trade-off honest.
Worked example
With 7.5 h sleep (52.5/week), 50 h work and commute, and 20 h chores, committed time is 122.5 h, leaving 168 − 122.5 = 45.5 free hours. A 7-hour self-care goal is 7 ÷ 45.5 = 15% of that, or about 60 minutes a day.
Frequently asked questions
What counts as self-care?
Anything that restores you rather than depletes you — exercise, hobbies, rest, time with people you love, or simply doing nothing on purpose. The point is that it is deliberate and for your wellbeing.
My goal exceeds my free hours — what now?
That is useful information. Either scale the goal to what fits, or look hard at the committed columns: outsourcing chores, trimming commute, or protecting sleep can each free up real hours.
