How it works

CGPA = Σ(SGPA × semester credits) ÷ Σ credits (or the plain mean when credits are equal)

SGPA is the credit-weighted average within a semester; CGPA is the credit-weighted average across all semesters. If every semester carries the same credits the two methods agree, otherwise heavier semesters count for more. The “needed” figure shows how much the remaining semesters must average to hit a target — useful for placement cut-offs.

Worked example

SGPAs 8.4, 7.9, 8.6, 8.1 with credits 22, 24, 24, 22 → CGPA 8.25 (78.4%). To finish at 8.5 over eight semesters you need about 8.75 in each of the last four.

Frequently asked questions

Do backlogs change the calculation?

Cleared backlogs are counted at the grade obtained in the credits of the original semester; check your university’s rule on whether the first attempt is capped.

Some universities exclude first-year credits.

Yes — several count CGPA from the second year only. Enter only the semesters your university includes.
