How it works
Fees = price × card% + card fixed + price × extra% · Profit = price − fees − cost · Margin % = profit ÷ price × 100
Every Shopify sale carries a payment processing fee — a percentage of the order plus a fixed amount — and, if you use a gateway other than Shopify Payments, an extra transaction fee of roughly 2% on top. This calculator subtracts both fees and your product cost to reveal the real profit and margin per order, not just the headline price. Leave the extra fee at zero when you use Shopify Payments, or raise it to model a third-party gateway. All rates are editable for your plan and region.
Worked example
On a $50 order with $15 of product cost at 2.9% + $0.30 and no extra fee, Shopify takes $1.75, leaving $48.25 after fees and $33.25 profit — a 66.5% margin. Switch to a third-party gateway with a 2% extra fee and Shopify takes $2.75, trimming profit to $32.25.

When does the extra transaction fee apply?
Shopify charges an additional transaction fee — commonly around 2%, lower on higher-tier plans — whenever you process payments through a gateway other than Shopify Payments. Use Shopify Payments and it drops to zero.
Does this include my monthly Shopify subscription?
No. This is the per-order fee and profit. Your monthly plan fee is a fixed cost spread across all orders, so divide it by your order volume to see its per-order impact separately.
Is the card rate the same for every sale?
Online card rates differ from in-person (POS) rates, and international cards cost more. The defaults reflect a typical US online card — edit the percentage and fixed fee to match your actual channel.
