PayPal Fee Calculator
Calculate PayPal Goods & Services fees and your net payout — plus the reverse: what to charge to receive a target amount. Editable rates.
How it works
Fee = amount × rate% + fixed · Net = amount − fee · Gross to net a target = (target + fixed) ÷ (1 − rate%)
PayPal’s Goods & Services fee is a percentage of the payment plus a small fixed amount, both of which vary by country and payment type. This tool shows the fee, your net payout and the effective rate, and works the problem backwards too: because the fixed fee does not scale, you cannot just add the percentage to land on a target — the reverse formula divides by one minus the rate so you request exactly the right gross to net your goal. Every rate is editable to match your country or a fee change.
Worked example
On a $100 Goods & Services payment at 3.49% + $0.49, the fee is $3.98, so you receive $96.02 — an effective 3.98%. To actually pocket $100, you would need to request $104.12.
Frequently asked questions
Do Friends & Family payments have a fee?
Domestic Friends & Family payments funded by balance or bank are usually free; card-funded or international ones can carry a fee. This calculator models the Goods & Services rate, which is what sellers receive.
Why can’t I just add 3.49% to cover the fee?
Because the fee is charged on the higher gross amount and includes a fixed part. Adding the percentage under-collects. Use the “to net” figure, which divides by one minus the rate, to cover the fee exactly.
Are international payments more expensive?
Yes. Cross-border payments add a percentage and often use a higher base rate, and a currency conversion spread may apply. Raise the percentage field to model an international sale.
