How it works

Fees = listing + revenue×transaction% + (revenue×processing% + fixed) + optional Offsite Ads% · Profit = price + shipping − fees − item cost (revenue = price + shipping)

Etsy charges several fees on every sale: a flat listing fee per item, a transaction fee on the item price plus shipping, a payment-processing fee (a percentage plus a fixed amount that varies by country), and — if the sale came through Etsy’s Offsite Ads — an advertising fee of 12% or 15% depending on your shop’s annual revenue. This tool totals them, subtracts your item cost, and shows the profit and margin. Every rate is editable, so you can match your country’s processing fee or a fee change.

Worked example

Selling a $20 item that costs $5, with no separate shipping: listing $0.20, transaction 6.5% = $1.30, processing 3% + $0.25 = $0.85. Total fees $2.35, so you receive $17.65 and, after the $5 cost, keep $12.65 — a 63.3% margin. Turn on 15% Offsite Ads and fees jump by $3.00.

Frequently asked questions

Does Etsy charge the transaction fee on shipping?

Yes. Etsy’s transaction fee applies to the total the buyer pays including shipping and gift wrap, not just the item price. This calculator adds shipping into the revenue the fees are charged on.

When does the Offsite Ads fee apply?

Only when a buyer reaches your listing through an Etsy-placed ad off-site. Shops with under $10,000 in the last 12 months pay 15% and can opt out; shops over $10,000 pay 12% and cannot opt out. It does not apply to ordinary organic sales.

Why is my payment-processing fee different?

Payment processing varies by country — the percentage and the fixed amount both differ. The 3% + $0.25 default is typical for the US; change both fields to match your country’s rate for an accurate figure.
