How it works

Items per person = 3 tacos / 1.5 burritos × appetite · Total items = round up(per person × people) · Tortillas = items × 1.1 · Protein = items × 60 g taco / 120 g burrito

Tacos are small, so people eat several — three per person is a reliable planning number, dropping to two for light eaters and four for a hungry crowd. Burritos are a full meal in one wrap, so one and a half per person covers seconds without waste. Always buy about 10% more tortillas than servings: some tear, and a taco bar always tempts a few extra. Each taco holds roughly 60 g of cooked filling and a burrito about double that, which is what sets the protein, cheese and bean quantities.

Worked example

Taco night for 8 with normal appetites: 3 tacos each × 8 = 24 tacos. Buy about 27 tortillas, cook around 1,440 g of protein, and set out roughly 480 g of cheese and 1,080 g of beans.

Frequently asked questions

How much meat is that per person for tacos?

At three tacos with 60 g of cooked filling each, about 180 g of cooked protein per person — buy a bit more raw, since meat loses roughly a quarter of its weight cooking.

What if I offer both tacos and burritos?

Run the numbers for each separately and reduce the counts, since people will choose one or the other rather than eating a full serving of both.

Should I add extras for a taco bar?

Yes. Self-serve bars encourage bigger builds and seconds, so lean toward the hearty setting and keep a few spare tortillas warm.
