Event Tent Size Calculator
Find the tent square footage and a suggested tent size for your guest count based on how the event is seated.
How it works
Area = guests × sq ft per guest + extras · per guest = 6 (standing/rows), 10 (long tables), 12 (round tables)
Tent size is driven by how people are seated, not just how many. Standing cocktail guests need about 6 sq ft each, ceremony rows about the same, long banquet tables about 10 sq ft per seat, and round tables the most at roughly 12 sq ft because the round shape and chairs pulled out waste floor space. Add the footprint of anything that is not seating — dance floor, bar, buffet, stage, gift table — before you pick a tent, or you will run out of room.
Worked example
For 120 guests at round tables, seating is 120 × 12 = 1,440 sq ft. Add a 300 sq ft dance floor and bar area for 1,740 sq ft total. A 30 × 60 ft tent (1,800 sq ft) is the smallest common stock size that fits.
Frequently asked questions
How much tent space does one guest need?
Roughly 6 sq ft for standing cocktail or ceremony-row seating, 10 sq ft at long banquet tables and 12 sq ft at round tables. Round tables need the most because the circular footprint plus pulled-out chairs wastes floor area.
Do I need to add space for a dance floor and bar?
Yes — always add the footprint of the dance floor, bar, buffet, stage, cake and gift tables to the seating area. A common dance floor is 12 × 12 to 20 × 20 ft; forgetting these features is the usual reason a tent ends up too small.
What tent size do I need for 100 guests?
For 100 guests at round tables that is about 1,200 sq ft of seating plus extras — a 40 × 40 ft (1,600 sq ft) tent is typical once you include a dance floor and bar. Standing-only receptions for 100 fit in far less, around 600–800 sq ft.
