Venus Sign Calculator (plus Mars & Mercury Signs and Retrogrades)
Find your Venus sign — and your Mars and Mercury signs — from your birth date and time, with the exact degree, element, whether the planet was retrograde, when it entered and left that sign, and a mini chart of your personal planets.
How it works
Heliocentric orbit of the planet and of Earth from Keplerian elements (JPL, Standish) → solve Kepler's equation E − e·sin E = M → rotate into ecliptic coordinates · geocentric longitude λ = atan2(y_planet − y_Earth, x_planet − x_Earth), corrected for light time, precession to the date, aberration and nutation · sign = ⌊λ ÷ 30°⌋; retrograde when λ is decreasing
Your Venus sign is the zodiac sign Venus occupied, as seen from Earth, when you were born. Venus stays in a sign for about 4–5 weeks (up to 4 months when it turns retrograde), Mars for about 6–7 weeks and Mercury for 2–3 weeks, so the birth date is normally enough and the time only matters near a sign change. The calculator computes the planets' positions from NASA JPL orbital elements — within a few arc-minutes of professional ephemerides for 1800–2050. Astrologers link Venus to love and taste and Mars to drive; those meanings are entertainment, not science.
Worked example
For a birth on May 15, 1990 at 12:00 in Mexico City (UTC−6), Venus was at 13.11° of ecliptic longitude, 13°06′ Aries — a Venus in Aries, fire element, moving direct. Venus entered Aries on May 3, 1990 and left it on May 30, 1990. In the same chart the Sun is in Taurus, the Moon at 0°16′ Aquarius, Mercury in Taurus (retrograde) and Mars in Pisces.

Frequently asked questions
What does my Venus sign mean?
In astrology Venus is associated with love, attraction, beauty and money, and its sign is read as your style in those areas — e.g. Venus in Aries as direct and impulsive, Venus in Taurus as loyal and sensual. These readings are traditional entertainment and have no scientific evidence behind them.
Do I need my birth time for my Venus sign?
Rarely. Venus moves about 1° per day, so the sign only depends on the time if it changed sign on your birthday. Check the "entered" and "left" dates: if your birthday is one of them, enter your time as exactly as you can.
What does "retrograde" mean?
Seen from the moving Earth, a planet periodically appears to stop and move backwards against the stars. Venus does this every 19 months for about 6 weeks, Mars every 26 months for 2–3 months, Mercury three to four times a year for 3 weeks. Nothing actually reverses; it is a line-of-sight effect.
Why are Venus and Mercury always near my Sun sign?
Because they orbit inside Earth's orbit: Mercury is never more than 28° and Venus never more than 47° from the Sun, so they are always in your Sun sign or one or two signs either side.
