How it works
sign = the tropical zodiac band your month and day fall into (each sign spans roughly one month, e.g. Cancer is June 21 – July 22)
This uses the standard Western (tropical) sun-sign date ranges — the boundaries you see in horoscopes. Your birth month and day are matched to the sign whose range contains that date, and each sign belongs to one of four elements: fire, earth, air or water. The date ranges are a fixed cultural convention, so the sign itself is determined, not guessed.
Worked example
A birth date of July 10 falls between June 21 and July 22, which is Cancer — a water sign ruled by the Moon, traditionally seen as caring, loyal and home-centred.

What if I was born on a cusp?
The exact sun crossing can shift by a day between years, so if your birthday sits right on a boundary (e.g. July 22–23), your sign can vary slightly by birth year. A precise sun-position lookup for your exact date settles it.
Fire, earth, air or water — what do the elements mean?
It is a traditional grouping: fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) are seen as bold, earth (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) as grounded, air (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) as intellectual, water (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) as emotional.
Is astrology scientific?
