Love Compatibility Calculator
Play the classic FLAMES name game — enter two names for a Friends / Love / Marriage verdict and a just-for-fun compatibility score.
How it works
FLAMES: cancel every letter the two names share, count the letters left over, then count that number repeatedly around F-L-A-M-E-S (Friends, Love, Affection, Marriage, Enemies, Siblings) removing one each pass until one remains
FLAMES is a classic playground game, offered here purely for fun. You write both names, strike out every letter they have in common, and count what is left; that count is used to eliminate the six FLAMES categories one by one, like a counting-out rhyme, until a single relationship label survives. Because the whole process is fixed arithmetic on the letters, the same two names always give the same answer — there is no randomness and no real insight into anyone.
Worked example
“Alex” and “Sam” share one “a”, which cancels, leaving l-e-x and s-m — five letters. Counting five around the six FLAMES slots and removing one each round eventually leaves “Friends”. Swapping the names gives the same result, since the letters are identical either way.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a real measure of compatibility?
No — it is a childhood word game with zero predictive power. Real compatibility comes from communication, values and time together, not the spelling of two names.
Why do I always get the same answer?
FLAMES is pure arithmetic on the shared and leftover letters, so the same pair of names always produces the same category and score. Nothing is randomised.
What do the six FLAMES words mean?
They stand for Friends, Love, Affection, Marriage, Enemies and Siblings — the six possible “verdicts” the game can land on. They are meant as lighthearted labels, nothing more.
