How it works

score = 55 + (shared letters ÷ total distinct letters) × 28 + a small fixed name-hash bonus, clamped to 45–99% (name order does not matter)

This is a playful score, not a judgment of any real friendship. It blends two fixed ingredients: how many distinct letters the two names share (as a fraction of all the letters used) and a stable hash of the names, so the number always stays the same for the same pair and ignores who was typed first. There is nothing random and nothing predictive — it is a fun little icebreaker.

Worked example

“Riley” and “Jordan” share the letters r and i-style overlaps among their distinct letters, nudging the base score upward, and the name-hash adds a small fixed bonus — landing on a friendly percentage that never changes for that pair.

Frequently asked questions

Does this predict a real friendship?

Not at all. Real friendships are built on trust, time and shared experiences — none of which a name can measure. Treat the score as a bit of fun.

Why is the score the same every time?

Because it is calculated from the fixed letters of the two names, not chance. The same names always return the same number, which makes it shareable and repeatable.

Does it matter who is “name 1”?

No. The names are sorted before scoring, so you and your friend get the same result whichever order you enter them.
