How it works

Still to save = budget − already saved · Monthly saving = still to save ÷ months · Weekly ≈ monthly × 12 ÷ 52

Backing into a savings rate is more reliable than hoping the money appears. You fix the target (your budget) and the deadline (the wedding date), and the required monthly deposit falls out of simple division. If that number feels impossible, the two levers are clear: trim the budget or lengthen the runway by setting a later date.

Worked example

A $30,000 budget with $5,000 already saved leaves $25,000 to go. Over 18 months that is about $1,389 a month, or roughly $321 a week, to be fully funded by the wedding.

Frequently asked questions

Should I include gifts or family contributions?

Only count money you can rely on before the wedding. If a parent has firmly committed a fixed amount, add it to "already saved"; leave uncertain gifts out so you don’t under-save.

What if the monthly number is too high?

You have three levers: lower the total budget, push the date back to add months, or increase income earmarked for the wedding. This tool shows exactly how each change moves the monthly figure.

Does interest help over this period?

A little, but with a short one-to-two-year horizon the effect is small, so this tool ignores it to stay conservative. Keeping the cash in a high-yield savings account is still smart.
