Weekly Calorie Bank Calculator

Treat calories like a weekly budget: bank a little on ordinary days so you can flex on one or two without breaking your average.

How it works

Weekly budget = daily target × 7 · Ordinary-day calories = (weekly budget − flex days × flex calories) ÷ ordinary days

Weight change tracks your weekly calorie average far more than any single day, so a calorie bank lets you plan a night out or a big weekend meal without guilt. You subtract the planned flex-day calories from the full weekly budget, then divide what is left across the remaining days. The trade-off is real: a bigger splurge means leaner ordinary days, and the tool warns if those drop below a sustainable floor.

Worked example

On a 2,000 kcal average, your week holds 14,000 kcal. Spend one 2,800 kcal flex day and 11,200 kcal remain for six days — about 1,867 kcal each. The weekly average still lands at 2,000.

Frequently asked questions

Does calorie banking actually work for weight loss?

It can, because bodyweight responds to the weekly energy balance rather than daily perfection. The catch is honesty — flex days must be planned and counted, not open-ended, or the average creeps up.

Is it the same as calorie cycling?

They overlap. Calorie cycling assigns high and low days by training or rest; a calorie bank simply reserves calories for chosen social or treat days. Both keep the weekly total fixed.

Should ordinary days ever go too low?

If banking pushes ordinary days under about 1,200 kcal, the plan is unbalanced. Shrink the flex-day size or add a second flex day with a smaller allowance instead.
