Countdown Calculator
Count down to any date: days, weeks, months, hours, minutes and seconds left, weekdays and weekend days to go, the weekday it falls on and a milestone table. Add times for an exact hours-and-minutes countdown, or enter a past date to see how long ago it was.
How it works
days left = target date − count-from date, in whole calendar days (+1 if the start day is counted) · weeks = days ÷ 7 · months by calendar walking · hours = days × 24 (or the exact seconds ÷ 3,600 when times are entered)
The countdown compares calendar dates, not clock hours. It counts the midnights between the count-from date and the target, so the number drops by one at midnight and reads zero on the target date itself. The count-from date is today on your device unless you pick another one. The same span is also shown in weeks, in months and days, in hours, minutes and seconds, and split into weekdays and weekend days, which helps with work deadlines and school terms. If you type the current time and the event time under More options, the countdown becomes exact to the minute (or second). A milestone table lists the dates when 100, 30, 7 and 1 days remain, plus the halfway point. If the target date has passed, the calculator tells you how long ago it was instead.
Worked example
Counting from Sunday, October 18, 2026 to Friday, January 1, 2027: 13 days are left in October after the 18th, November and December add 30 + 31 = 61, and January adds 1, so 75 days remain. That is 10 weeks and 5 days, or 2 months and 14 days, and 1,800 hours. Of those 75 days, 54 are weekdays and 21 are weekend days. With the time now set to 6:00 pm and the event time left blank (midnight), the exact countdown is 74 days, 6 hours.
Frequently asked questions
Does the countdown include today?
Not by default. It counts the days still to come, so tomorrow is 1 day away and the target date reads 0. Turn on “Count the start day too” under More options for an inclusive count, which adds one.
Why is it not based on 24-hour blocks?
Because “days until” in everyday speech means calendar days: on the evening of the 10th, an event on the 12th is 2 days away even though fewer than 48 hours remain. Type the time now and the event time if you want the exact hours and minutes instead.
How are weekdays and weekend days counted?
They cover the days from the count-from date up to the day before the target, the same days the main count covers. Monday to Friday are weekdays; Saturdays and Sundays are weekend days. Public holidays are not removed.
Can I count from a past date?
Yes. Enter any past target date and the result becomes “days since”, with the same weeks, months, hours and weekday breakdown.
Why might another site show one day more or less?
Two common reasons: some sites count today as a day (switch on the inclusive option to match), and the count uses the date on your device, so near midnight people in different time zones briefly see different numbers.
