Win Rate Needed Calculator
Work out the win rate you must hit to reach a revenue target from the opportunities and deal size you have.
How it works
Win rate needed = target ÷ (opportunities × average deal value) × 100 · Deals needed = target ÷ average deal value
This flips the usual pipeline question around: instead of projecting revenue from a win rate, it asks what win rate a target demands from the pipeline you already have. If the required rate lands above 100%, the pipeline simply is not big enough — even a perfect close record falls short — and the fix is more opportunities or larger deals, not better selling. Comparing the required win rate to your historical rate is an instant reality check on whether a target is reachable.
Worked example
Chasing $500,000 from 120 opportunities worth $8,000 each: the pipeline can produce at most $960,000, so you need to win 500,000 ÷ 960,000 = 52.1% of deals — roughly 63 closes. If your historical win rate is only 25%, the target is out of reach without more pipeline.
Frequently asked questions
What does "win rate needed" tell me?
It is the share of your current opportunities you must close to hit a revenue target. Compared with your historical win rate, it shows immediately whether the goal is realistic with the pipeline you have.
What if the required win rate is over 100%?
Then no amount of selling skill can hit the target — even winning every deal falls short. You need more opportunities or a higher average deal value. The calculator flags this case explicitly.
How do I lower the win rate I need?
Add qualified opportunities, raise average deal size through upsells or bundling, or extend the period. Each reduces the win rate the target demands, moving it back within reach of your real close rate.
