FBA Long-Term Storage Fee Calculator
Estimate the aged-inventory surcharge Amazon adds to units stored over 365 days in FBA, plus the ongoing monthly storage cost, from your item size and quantity.
How it works
Volume = L × W × H ÷ 1728 · Long-term/unit = max(rate × volume, $0.15) · Monthly/unit = monthly rate × volume
Amazon prices storage by volume, not weight, so a bulky lightweight item costs more to store than a dense small one. Inventory sitting in a fulfillment center past 365 days triggers a long-term storage surcharge charged per cubic foot, with a small per-unit floor so tiny items are never free to leave lingering. Slow sellers can quietly rack up storage fees that exceed their margin, which is why aged inventory is worth clearing or removing.
Worked example
A 10 × 8 × 4 inch item is 320 ÷ 1728 = 0.185 cu ft. The long-term fee is max($6.90 × 0.185, $0.15) = $1.28 per unit, so 100 aged units cost $127.80 — plus roughly $0.16 each, or $16.10 a month, in ordinary storage at $0.87 per cubic foot.
Frequently asked questions
When does the long-term storage fee apply?
Amazon assesses it on units that have been in a fulfillment center for more than 365 days, on top of the regular monthly storage fee. The exact rate and floor change over time, so treat the defaults here as a planning estimate and check the current FBA fee schedule.
Why is storage based on cubic feet rather than weight?
Warehouse space is the constrained resource, so Amazon charges for the volume an item occupies. A light but bulky product can cost far more to store than a small dense one, which makes item dimensions the key lever for storage cost.
How do I avoid long-term storage fees?
Keep inventory turning so units sell before the 365-day mark, order in quantities matched to real demand, run promotions to clear slow movers, or create a removal order to pull aged stock before the surcharge lands.
