Fluid Ounces to Milliliters Converter
Convert US or UK (imperial) fluid ounces to millilitres and litres, with cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, pints, a measuring-cup breakdown, the weight for common liquids and a table of everyday container sizes.
How it works
mL = US fl oz × 29.5735 · mL = UK fl oz × 28.4131 · litres = mL ÷ 1,000 · cups = US fl oz ÷ 8 · tablespoons = fl oz × 2 · teaspoons = fl oz × 6 · weight (g) = mL × density
A US fluid ounce is exactly 29.5735295625 millilitres, defined as 1/128 of a US gallon, so the conversion is one multiplication. The British imperial fluid ounce is smaller, 28.4130625 mL, because it is 1/160 of an imperial gallon. The gap is about 4%, which matters in large amounts or when you scale up a British recipe. A third unit is used on US nutrition labels, which treat 1 fl oz as 30 mL. Pick the one you have next to the number. You also get litres, US and metric cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, pints, quarts and gallons, a breakdown into US measuring cups and spoons, and, under More options, the weight of the amount for 20 common liquids from water and milk to honey, oil and spirits. Fluid ounces measure volume, so the weight depends on the liquid.
Worked example
A US recipe asks for 6 fl oz of milk. 6 × 29.5735 = 177.4 mL, which is 0.177 L, ¾ cup or 12 tablespoons. Milk weighs about 1.01 g per mL, so that is roughly 183 g. A British recipe that says 6 fl oz means 6 × 28.4131 = 170.5 mL, about 7 mL less.

Frequently asked questions
How many millilitres are in a fluid ounce?
A US fluid ounce is 29.5735 mL, usually rounded to 30 mL in the kitchen and on nutrition labels. The UK imperial fluid ounce is 28.4131 mL.
Is a fluid ounce a measure of weight?
No. It measures volume. A fluid ounce of water weighs about 1.04 weight ounces (29.5 g), close enough to treat as equal, but honey weighs about 1.5 times as much and oil about 10% less. Pick a liquid under More options to see the weight.
How many fluid ounces are in a cup?
A US cup is 8 fluid ounces (236.6 mL), a pint 16, a quart 32 and a gallon 128. A metric cup of 250 mL holds about 8.45 US fluid ounces.
How many mL is 12 oz or 16 oz?
12 US fl oz is 354.9 mL, which a soda can rounds to 355 mL. 16 fl oz, a US pint, is 473.2 mL. A 16.9 fl oz water bottle holds 500 mL.
What is the difference between US and UK fluid ounces?
The US fluid ounce is 1/128 of a US gallon (29.57 mL); the imperial fluid ounce is 1/160 of an imperial gallon (28.41 mL). A US fluid ounce is about 4% larger, but there are 20 imperial fluid ounces in a UK pint against 16 US fluid ounces in a US pint.
