How it works

Separate = n × per-tx gas · Batch = base + n × per-item · Savings = separate − batch

Batching bundles many actions into one transaction, paying the base transaction cost once and only a small marginal cost per item, instead of the full per-transaction gas every time. The saving grows with the number of items, but there is a break-even count below which the batch’s fixed base cost isn’t worth it. This is why airdrops, multisends and rollup sequencers batch aggressively — the per-item cost is a fraction of a standalone transaction.

Worked example

10 transactions at $5 each cost $50 separately. Batched, the base is $8 plus 10 × $0.50 = $13 total — a $37 saving (74%). Batching beats sending separately once you have more than 8 ÷ (5 − 0.5) ≈ 2 transactions.

Frequently asked questions

When is batching not worth it?

When you have very few transactions, the batch’s fixed base cost can exceed the gas you would have paid individually. The calculator shows the break-even count — below it, sending separately is cheaper.

What real-world operations use batching?

Token airdrops, multisend/disperse tools, NFT bulk mints, and rollups that compress many user transactions into one L1 batch. All of them amortize a fixed base cost across many items.

Do gas prices affect the savings?

Yes — every figure scales with the current gas price. When the network is congested and per-transaction gas spikes, the absolute savings from batching grow because the per-item marginal cost stays comparatively small.
