Grade Improvement Projection Calculator
Project your final course grade from your current standing and the score you expect on the work that remains.
How it works
projected final = current grade × (completed share) + expected score × (1 − completed share)
A course grade is a weighted average, so your final mark blends what you have already earned with what is still to come, each weighted by its share of the total grade. If 60% of the grade is locked in, that 60% stays fixed and only the remaining 40% can still move the number — which is why big swings become impossible late in a term. Raising the expected score on remaining work shows exactly how much room is left to climb, and how strong the finish must be to reach a target.
Worked example
You sit at 78% with 60% of the grade completed and expect 90% on the remaining 40%. The projection is 78 × 0.60 + 90 × 0.40 = 46.8 + 36.0 = 82.8%, a gain of 4.8 points over your current standing.
Frequently asked questions
Why can't my grade move much late in the term?
Because most of the weight is already fixed. If 80% of the grade is done, only the last 20% can still shift the average, so even a perfect finish changes the total by a limited amount. Improvement is easiest early, when more weight remains.
How do I find the "share of grade already completed"?
Add up the weight of every graded item so far — if two exams worth 30% each and homework worth 10% are graded, that is 70% completed. The rest is the ungraded remainder.
How is this different from a final-grade calculator?
A final-grade calculator solves for the score you need to hit a target. This tool works forward: you supply the expected remaining score and it projects where you will land, so you can test different finishes.
