International Dress Size Converter
Convert a women’s clothing size between US, UK, EU, French, Italian and Australian scales in one step.
How it works
UK = US + 4 · Australia = US + 4 · EU = US + 30 · France = US + 32 · Italy = US + 36
Women’s ready-to-wear sizes follow fixed numerical offsets between national systems even though the underlying garment is the same. The UK and Australia run four numbers above the US; continental Europe adds thirty; France adds two more than the EU number, and Italy six more. These are the standard alignments used on retailer conversion charts — always a starting point, since cut and vanity sizing still vary between brands.
Worked example
A US size 8 converts to UK 12 (8 + 4), EU 38 (8 + 30), France 40 (8 + 32) and Italy 44 (8 + 36). Australia matches the UK at 12.
Frequently asked questions
Why do brands within the same country fit differently?
Because clothing sizes are not standardised the way, say, shoe lengths are. “Vanity sizing” and each brand’s target fit mean a US 8 in one label can measure like a 6 or a 10 in another. Use this conversion as a baseline, then check the brand’s own measurements.
Do these offsets work for men’s clothing?
No. This converter is for women’s dress and top sizes. Men’s sizing is usually driven directly by chest or waist measurements in inches or centimetres, which convert differently.
What if my size falls between two numbers?
Size up if the garment is fitted or non-stretch, and down if it is stretchy or you prefer a slim fit. When in doubt, compare the garment’s bust, waist and hip measurements to your own.
