Lead Scoring Threshold Calculator
Set the right lead-score cutoff by matching how many leads sales can work — see the pass rate, leads handed over and revenue.
How it works
Sales capacity = reps × leads per rep · Pass rate = min(capacity, leads) ÷ leads × 100 · Deals = leads passed × close rate · Revenue = deals × average deal
A lead score is only useful once you pick a cutoff, and the right cutoff is set by capacity, not by a round number. If sales can work 450 leads a month but marketing sends 2,000, the threshold should qualify roughly the top 22% by score — enough to fill the pipeline without burying reps in leads they cannot follow up. Passing more than the team can handle just means good leads go cold, so the cutoff protects both conversion and rep focus.
Worked example
3 reps who can each work 150 leads handle 450 of 2,000 monthly leads, so the threshold should accept the top 22.5%. Those 450 leads at a 12% close rate produce 54 deals; at a $3,000 average deal that is $162,000 a month.
Frequently asked questions
How do I choose a lead-score threshold?
Rank leads by score and set the cutoff so the number that qualify matches what your sales team can actually work. Passing everyone overwhelms reps and lets hot leads cool; too high a bar leaves capacity idle.
What if capacity exceeds lead volume?
Then you can qualify every lead — the constraint is demand, not sales capacity. The calculator flags this and sets the pass rate to 100%, and the lever becomes generating more leads rather than filtering them.
Should the threshold be fixed?
No. As lead volume, headcount or close rates change, recompute it. Many teams revisit the cutoff monthly or quarterly so sales always works the best leads their capacity allows.
