PayPal Fee Calculator
Find the PayPal Goods & Services fee on a payment, what you net, and the amount to charge to receive a target — with editable percentage and fixed fee.
How it works
Fee = amount × fee% + fixed · Net = amount − fee · Gross-up = (target + fixed) ÷ (1 − fee%)
PayPal’s Goods & Services fee is a percentage of the payment plus a small fixed amount (about 3.49% + $0.49 for US domestic transactions). Because of the fixed component, the effective rate is much higher on small payments than large ones. If you need to receive an exact amount, you cannot just add the percentage back — you divide by (1 − fee%) after adding the fixed fee, which this tool does for you. Rates differ for international payments, micropayments and other countries, so both the percentage and fixed fee are editable. Friends-and-Family transfers within the US are free and would use a 0% fee.
Worked example
Receiving a $100 Goods & Services payment: the fee is 3.49% + $0.49 = $3.98, so you net $96.02 — an effective 3.98%. To land exactly $100 in your account, ask the sender for ($100 + $0.49) ÷ (1 − 0.0349) = $104.13.
Frequently asked questions
What is PayPal’s fee for receiving money?
For US domestic Goods & Services payments it is about 3.49% plus a $0.49 fixed fee, deducted from the amount received. International payments, QR-code and in-person rates, and other currencies differ — edit both fields to match the transaction type you are estimating.
How do I make the buyer cover the PayPal fee?
Add the fee back correctly by dividing your target by (1 − fee%) after adding the fixed fee, not by simply adding 3.49%. The results show this “charge to net the full amount” figure. Note that some PayPal policies restrict passing fees to buyers, so check the terms for your account type.
Is there a fee for Friends and Family payments?
US domestic Friends-and-Family transfers funded by a PayPal balance or linked bank account are free, so set the fee fields to 0. Sending Friends and Family with a card, or internationally, does carry a fee. Goods & Services always carries the seller-protection fee modeled here.
