Shopify Profit Calculator
Work out real profit per Shopify order after payment processing, any third-party gateway fee, your product cost and shipping — with editable rates.
How it works
Fees = price×processing% + fixed + price×gateway% · Profit = price − fees − product cost − shipping cost
On Shopify, the platform’s subscription is a fixed monthly cost, so the per-order cost that matters is payment processing — a percentage plus a fixed amount (around 2.9% + $0.30 for online cards). If you use a third-party gateway instead of Shopify Payments, Shopify adds an extra transaction fee (roughly 0.5%–2% depending on plan), which the gateway field captures. Subtract those plus your product cost and any shipping you absorb to see the profit each order actually leaves. The monthly plan fee is not included here because it is spread across all orders, not charged per sale.
Worked example
A $50 order with $18 of product cost and $5 of shipping you cover, on Shopify Payments: processing is 2.9% + $0.30 = $1.75. Payout $48.25, and after the $23 of product and shipping cost you keep $25.25 — a 50.5% margin. Switch to an outside gateway on Basic and a 2% add-on fee ($1.00) trims profit to $24.25.
Frequently asked questions
Does this include my Shopify monthly subscription?
No. The monthly plan fee ($39, $105 or $399 on the main tiers) is a fixed cost spread across every order, not charged per sale. To fold it in, divide your monthly plan cost by your expected order count and subtract that from each order’s profit separately.
When does the extra transaction fee apply?
Only if you use a payment gateway other than Shopify Payments. Shopify then charges an additional transaction fee — about 2% on Basic, 1% on Shopify and 0.5% on Advanced. Using Shopify Payments avoids it, so leave the gateway field at 0 in that case.
Is 2.9% + 30¢ the right processing rate for me?
That is the typical online credit-card rate on Shopify Payments in the US. In-person and international cards differ, higher plans get slightly lower rates, and other countries vary. Edit both the percentage and the fixed fee to match your actual rate.
