How it works

streak days = count-up date − start date · milestones at 7, 30, 90, 100, 365, 1000 … days · years/months/days by calendar walking from the start date

A streak counter is just the number of days elapsed since the day you began, counted inclusively of neither endpoint by the calendar. Showing it as years, months and days as well as a plain day count gives both the satisfying big number and the human-friendly version. The next-milestone line highlights the common recovery and habit landmarks (30, 90, 365 days and beyond) and the date you will reach the next one, which many people find motivating.

Worked example

Starting January 1, 2026 and counting to September 15, 2026 is a 257-day streak — 8 months and 14 days, or about 36 weeks. The next milestone, 365 days, is 108 days away on January 1, 2027.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use this for things other than sobriety?

Yes. Any habit or streak works — quitting smoking, a daily workout, a language-learning run, days since an incident. Just set the start date to day one.

Does it count the start day?

It measures the number of whole days between the start date and the count-up date, so a start of today reads zero days and ticks to one the next day. Many trackers call the first day “day 1”, which is simply this figure plus one.

What are the common milestones?

Recovery and habit communities often mark 30, 60, 90 and 100 days, then 6 months and 1 year (365 days), followed by multi-year anniversaries. The tool shows the next one and its date.
