Test Average Calculator
Average a list of test scores, drop the lowest N, and find the score you need on the next test to reach a target average.
How it works
Average = Σ scores ÷ n; next score needed = target × (n + 1) − Σ scores
A plain mean treats every test equally — the right choice when your teacher does not weight them. The “needed” figure rearranges the average formula for one more test; when it exceeds the maximum, the target is out of reach in a single test and you would need several strong results. Dropping the lowest score mirrors a common syllabus policy.
Worked example
Scores 88, 92, 76, 85, 90 average 86.2; to reach 90 after six tests you would need 109 — impossible in one, so aim for 90+ on the next several.
