Add or Subtract Business Days Calculator
Move a date forward or back by a number of working days, skipping every weekend, to land on the exact weekday.
How it works
step one calendar day at a time in the chosen direction, counting a step only when it lands Mon–Fri, until the target number is reached
The calculator walks the calendar one day at a time and only decrements the counter on weekdays, so Saturdays and Sundays are stepped over without being counted. That is why ten business days is usually two full weeks plus a little — the weekends passed through add calendar days but not working days. Public holidays are not skipped, because they differ by country and employer, so add extra days for any that fall inside your span. Subtracting works the same way in reverse.
Worked example
Adding 10 business days to Tuesday 15 Sep 2026 steps past two weekends and lands on Tuesday 29 Sep 2026 — 14 calendar days later, of which 4 are weekend days.
Frequently asked questions
Are public holidays skipped?
No — only Saturdays and Sundays are skipped. Holiday calendars vary too much to build in, so add one extra business day for each weekday holiday that falls inside your span.
What if the start date is a weekend?
Counting begins from that date and the first weekday reached is the first business day counted. The result still lands on a weekday.
How is this different from adding calendar days?
Adding calendar days counts every day equally. Adding business days ignores weekends, so the same number of business days spans more calendar days whenever weekends fall in between.
