Percentage to GPA Point Calculator
Turn a single course percentage into its letter grade and 4.0-scale grade point using the standard US +/− grading table.
How it works
Percentage → letter (93+ = A, 90–92 = A−, 87–89 = B+, …) → 4.0-scale point · Quality points = point × credits
A course grade point is not the percentage divided by 25 — schools map a percentage to a letter first, then the letter to a fixed point on the 4.0 scale. This uses the common US table where an A is 4.0, an A− is 3.7, a B+ is 3.3 and so on. Multiplying that point by the course credits gives the quality points, which are what a full GPA is built from when you total them across all courses and divide by total credits.
Worked example
An 88% falls in the 87–89 band, which is a B+, worth 3.3 on the 4.0 scale. Over a 3-credit course that contributes 3.3 × 3 = 9.9 quality points toward your GPA.
Frequently asked questions
Is the grade point just percentage ÷ 25?
No. Percentage is mapped to a letter grade first, then to a fixed point value. An 88% and a 92% are both in the A/B range but land on different points (3.3 vs 3.7), not on 3.52 and 3.68.
Do all schools use this exact table?
Most US schools use this +/− scale, but cutoffs and whether they award pluses and minuses vary. Check your institution's official scale if a boundary grade matters.
How does one course affect my overall GPA?
Multiply its grade point by its credits to get quality points, add those across all courses, and divide by total credits. This tool shows the quality points for one course to plug into that total.
